"Anonymous Jerk"

The fun never ends; there is yet another letter to the editor in the Marin IJ (scroll halfway down) written by an angered realtor. According to the writer, I am an "anonymous jerk" for making that one statement, the one they are all crying about. But at least the writer puts the shame on the IJ for even publishing that article given that I never gave permission to be quoted nor gave my identification. The writer also shames the Marin Association of Realtors for their childish response. But the best part is that she asks for "a fair and reasonable discussion of the economic factors related to the meteoric rise in house prices" so at least some good might come out of all this.

I would love to be called an "anonymous jerk" with regard to stirring up the realtors(tm) in Marin.

In this market, after how so many realtors(tm) nearly everywhere have conducted themselves during this mania - it's a badge of honor, really.

"Irresponsible" the IJ may be... but perhaps the realtors(tm) could look in the mirror, too.

That is interesting. How about all the other bloggers talking about RE? They all say the same thing as you, Marinite. Besides, it is clear you are talking in general about RE and no one in particular. The satements you are referring to have been published in other articles that are in the public domain. You have not done anything wrong. You just express your opinion. I thought this is a free country.

Furthermore, your site does provide a discussion forum for anyone who wants to express his or her opinion regarding housing or economic factors from both sides. It is a healthy debate. Most of the opinions expressed in your blog coincide with those of reputable economists and think tanks such as the Anderson School of Business at UCLA. It is called ECON 101.

However, by calling people name is not part of healthy debate nor any reputable institutions would do. To be clear, YOU Marinite have not called anybody names; they have been calling you names like “jerk”, “sore loser”, “having RE flu”, etc.

I guess we should call Warren Buffet, the "Oracle of Omaha", a jerk for pointing out "America is more likely to turn into a 'sharecroppers' society' than an 'ownership society.'

Truth hurts especially for people who live in la-la land.

The IJ's behavior is just too much.
First, they publish statements unauthorized, which I'm sure they knew would be inflammatory, then they publish the angry realtor letters--without any contrary, balanced viewpoint. I'm sure many reasonable letters came in, such as mine, that they've chosen to ignore.

In the meantime, they've missed the whole point of this blog. Then again, perhaps this is their point?

I'm sure the IJ now reads this blog, yet they refuse to engage on the issues. So IJ: do you consider this to be good journalistic practice--whose interests do you serve? Oh, that's right--quite a few realtors advertise in your paper--what a stupid question!

The wiki letter to the editor has quite recently (within the hour) been sent to the IJ. It will be interesting to see whether or not they publish it or if they will only allow their pro-realtor name-calling letters to be published.

Media + Interest Groups = Biased Opinions = Garbage

I am also sure the IJ is reading this blog. But they are an organization. So give them time to engage (or not).
